Teletherapy, a modern approach

Rather than doing things the traditional way, you’ll visit me from the comfort of your own space (home, school, office, etc.) All you need is access to a web browser using a computer, a tablet, or a smartphone. Teletherapy is a modern way to receive counseling through a HIPPA compliant video chat platform, anything shared in our sessions will remain confidential. These sessions are conducted as they would be if we were together in the same room. Telehealth can be beneficial if you can’t or don’t want to attend traditional in-person appointments. Teletherapy has proven to be just as effective as in-person therapy. Online therapy can eliminate barriers like commuting and wait times. Hanan Counseling Services is excited to offer these services to anyone residing in Washington State, you can be anywhere in the state and still get your session in. Once your first session is scheduled a reminder of this appointment will be emailed to you with a link that will take you directly into your session. Feel free to schedule a free initial 15–20-minute consultation and see if teletherapy is a good option for you.

Primary Counseling modality: EMDR therapy

Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence- based, structured, nontraditional type of psychotherapy proven to help people recover from traumatic life experiences and other mental health disorders. EMDR reduces and eliminates negative thoughts and feelings. It is a phased, focused approach to treating trauma and other symptoms by reconnecting the traumatized person in a safe and measured way to the images, self-thoughts, emotions, and body sensations associated with the trauma, and allowing the natural healing powers of the brain to move toward adaptive resolution.

“Changing the memories that form the way we see ourselves also changes the way we view others. Therefore, our relationships, job performance, what we are willing to do or are able to resist, all move in a positive direction.”

— Francine Shapiro

Free Phone Screening

Each client will begin with a free 10–20 minute phone screening to determine if my services can be a good option for you.

The free initial screening provides you with the opportunity to ask questions, meet me, learn about my services, and decide if you think I am the right therapist for you and your situation. The initial screening is also an opportunity for me to decide as the therapist if I am the right fit for you – meaning can I help you with problem or issue for which you are seeking therapy?  If not, I will refer you with someone who can.

Initial Consultation

This is a 60-minute session that is all about getting to know you. Diagnostic Assessment

This session is 60-90 minutes, it is only beneficial in certain circumstances, therefore it is only provided if requested, if it’s necessary for billing insurance purposes, and for accessing other services. A clinical evaluation will be completed in order to gather information to determine appropriate treatment based on the initial problem, current mental status and the diagnostic impression. You should also be aware that most insurance require me to provide them with a clinical diagnosis in order to pay for your services. (Diagnoses are technical terms that describe the nature of your problems and whether they are short-term or long-term problems. All diagnoses come from a book titled Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. I have an online copy, and I will be glad to let you see it to learn more about your diagnosis, as needed).

EMDR Therapy

Online- Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an extensively researched, effective psychotherapy method proven to help people recover from trauma and other distressing life experiences, including PTSD, anxiety, and depression. EMDR therapy does not require talking in detail about the distressing issue or completing homework between sessions. EMDR therapy, rather than focusing on changing the emotions, thoughts, or behaviors resulting from the distressing issue, allows the brain to resume its natural healing process. EMDR therapy is designed to resolve unprocessed traumatic memories in the brain. For many clients, EMDR therapy can be completed in fewer sessions than other psychotherapies (EMDR International Association, 2022).

Parent Consultation/ Training

These sessions are 45-60 minutes and are less often traditional therapy sessions and more a way to help promote effective parenting. Consultations can be more narrowly defined as a structured, problem-solving collaborative relationship between the parent and therapist. They focus on working with parents to better understand and to more skillfully respond to their child’s emotions. Some common goals of parent consultation include things like parenting skill-building and techniques, support around a particular issue, education for parents, strengthen the relationship between parents and their child, processing parent’s own feelings around their child and their presenting issues, and dealing with differences in parenting approaches between parents. This can be provided to parents of teens and young adults without a child participating in therapy with me, or to parents who have a teen or young adults involved in therapy.

Good Faith Estimate

According to the newly passed No Surprise Act (effective January 1st, 2022), you have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical and mental health care will cost.

Under the law, healthcare providers need to give patients who do not have insurance or who are not using their insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services.

You can ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service.

If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.

For more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit: www.cms.gov/nosurprises.
